Begin with the room
Measure
Leave at least six inches below the ceiling and enough width for walking around the base.
Choose the view
Position the tree where it can be enjoyed from the room, not only from outside.
Plan the power
Know the outlet, cord path, and maximum light load before the tree arrives.

Decorate in layers
- Lights first, working from the trunk outward.
- Ribbon or garland next, if using it.
- Large or visually strong ornaments evenly across the tree.
- Meaningful ornaments at eye level.
- Small fillers and the topper last.

The restraint that makes it better
Repeat
Use one material, color, or shape at least five times to create rhythm.
Leave gaps
Dark green spaces make ornaments and lights easier to notice.
Edit
Stop when the tree feels alive, not when every ornament box is empty.
