First out
Advent, outdoor lights, cards, and early-season pieces stay together near the front.
By place
Tree, mantel, table, entry, kitchen, and outdoor zones reduce searching and carrying.
By fragility
Glass, paper, textiles, greenery, candles, and electrical items need different protection.
Create a truthful inventory
Photograph the open container and its finished display before closing the lid.
- Label two visible sides and the lid.
- Record the room or display, not only the object type.
- Remove broken lights, dead batteries, food, and wax residue.
- Keep hooks, fasteners, extension cords, and instructions with the display they serve.
- Write one missing or replacement item on next year's note.
Make the repair decision now
If a repair cannot be described and scheduled in five minutes, decide whether the object is worth storing for another year.

Bag the required parts with a dated note and a specific repair window.
Repurpose
Keep usable ribbon, hardware, fabric, frames, or greenery only with a named use.
